It's a bittersweet fact that we live long enough to love - and to lose - many animals during our lives. They leave holes in our hearts when they go. My favorite rooster, Mr. Littlefield, has disappeared and has left an empty space.
I haven't heard his screechy, three-syllalble crowing in a few days, and his buddy Fred Mertz has been hanging out alone. I suspect that a predator took Mr. L. Perhaps he provided a nice meal for a hungry critter who truly needed him. I know that I'll see my rooster in heaven along with my other chickens, dogs, and cats; the Lord takes good care of them for me!
Goodbye for now, Mr. Littlefield. I surely miss you!

I'm sorry, Mary Ann, I know how you feel. I lost 3 of my hens in the last year to predators, and it does tug at the heart doesn't it? I agree that we'll see all of our departed pets when we go "home".
